Police used a Taser gun to restrain a resident outside of his home on Crain Avenue as it burned at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

The resident, Mike Bartlett, said he was returning from downtown for his cell phone when he noticed his sister's room on fire. He ran in to make sure she was not there and continued to find his friends in the basement and alert them of the fire. He said his cousin's girlfriend was sleeping upstairs so he went back in the house to retrieve her.

When he went got outside, Bartlett said police officers were at the end of the driveway. He said he approached them for help, but they dismissed him. As he walked toward one of his friends, he said the officers tackled and restrained him with the Taser gun, giving them no reason for their force.

According to the Kent City Police levels of resistance report, Bartlett used psychological and physical active resistance to avoid arrest. The report stated he was both combative and intoxicated.

clipper's remarks: There is no end to this Taser insanity.

And you actually believe 'his' side of this story?

I'm sure it's SOP, house burning down - haul-ass to the scene, taser the homeowner - time for donuts!

You should consider how many lives are saved and injuries avoided by use of the taser - in many instances the taser reduces injuries to those who are taken into custody, in some it saves their lives. First of all, if you fight the police you deserve a real good ass-kicking.

You might not be so quick to criticize the taser or its use if it were 'you' who bore the responsibility and task of taking mental subjects, and just plain 'badasses', into custody.
The police have only a few 'weapons' at their disposal and the taser is simply one of those tools, in fact it is usually the last resort before deadly force is authorized. Are some officers abusing them, I'd be a fool to think not, but like most things in life, you have the weigh the good with the bad and I'm sure legitimate usage of tasers far outweigh those that abuse its use.

Most anyone who has previously been on the business end of a taser, comply at the sight of one.

Tasers, used properly, save lives. It's just the moronic taser policy that police departments are using. Don't blame the tool; blame the tools that made the policy.

No, the idiot is the one who believes that the police are always right, always within the bounds of reason, and never ever believes any other story than the one the police set forth.

What gave you the idiotic idea I always believe the police are right, in fact I agreed they are not. Your view of the clip was against Tasers in general (your first post) mine was don't blame the taser - it is a good tool however its use can and has been abused. Much like a car - people abuse their cars also - so applying your logic - we should do away with them. Idiot!

However, just as idiotic are the people who automatically disbelieve what police say, just because they are police. There are two sides to that lunatic coin.
