Major Malik Nadal Hasan.......But First A “Shout Out” to Obama’s Bud
clipped by: merrie   19  12

 clipped from newsrealblog.com

Shortly after Major Malik Nadal Hasan opened fire at the largest activity duty armored post in the United States, Ft. Hood in Texas, President Barack Obama held a press conference to address the issue. Before getting around to the shooting that had already claimed a dozen lives and wounded at least 31 people, he began his remarks by saying:

I want to thank my Cabinet members and senior administration officials who participated today. I hear that Dr. Joe Medicine Crow (ph) was around, and so I want to give a shout out to that Congressional Medal of Honor winner. It’s good to see you.

The quotation says it all: our commander-in-chief feels there is no event so serious that it cannot be prefaced by a moment of glib hipness, no solemn loss so sacred he will deny himself a moment of wry self-indulgence. Soldiers were killed? Let’s say hi to Joe first. An entire theater of war needs a plan to defeat the terrorists who struck America on 9/11?

clipper's remarks: No reason I can’t go golfing, shoot some hoops, and hit the town with Michelle.

President Bush used to break into tears when addressing soldiers and was reviled as a stone-hearted warmonger; Donald Rumsfeld was demonized for using a machine to sign notification letters to fallen soldiers’s next-of-kin. President Obama gives out rounds of virtual fist-bumps to his buds before even mentioning a slaughter of American soldiers, perpetrated by Americans, in mid-America.

We desperately need an adult in the White House. Sadly, today’s press conference proves we do not have one.

(Incidentally, the shooter " who killed 12 people with two handguns " is reportedly an adherent of the Religion of Peace who was incensed about being sent to war.)

You spend too much time listening to Cheney my friend. "Dithering"- do you have an original thought or do you spend your days saying "I don't recall" SEVENTY-TWO times instead of accepting responsibility for your actions?

Nice deflection, but let's remember, it was Obama's hand picked general who said time was of the essence and this was months ago. Funny how libs were upset with Bush over a few minutes, but give Obama a pass when he can't make up his mind over following his own general's recommendations after months. How many rounds of golf does it take to decide if we should stay in it to win or get out? Was porkulus just that much more important than the lives of our troops in Afghanistan?

Fort Hood has been a place where paid killers have been trained for decades.

From here they have gone to invade numerous countries and kill countless civilians. In Iraq alone more than 100 000 civilians have died so far - in comparison Al Qaeda pales to an insignificant annoyance.

Would anyone here have shed a single tear if Fort Hood happened to be in Iraq and those killed were Iraqis?

How long must the world suffer under American selective morality? Your killers are heroes - the rest are all terrorists?

I bet if those few minutes upset you that you must be infuriated over the months Obama has spent dithering instead of deciding to support his appointed General and our troops.
It was more than a few minutes, and it was at a time when the attacks had just started, not after they had been contained. I would think that it would signal immediate action as opposed to reading a book. As for Obama, I am not excusing him. I found it odd that he gave that "shout out" just prior to addressing the situation that had recently occurred. To your inquiry of sending more troops, the generals of a war are always going to request more troops, more equipment, etc., that covers their ass if things go wrong. Obama, were he to just comply with said general's request, would also be covering his ass, because then he could say he did all he could to "win" the war were it to go bad, and if it went well, could then take the credit for that as well. Seems like a win/win for him to send the troops. Either way there are lives at risk. Is the cost of escalating worth the lives and the money it will require? That's the big question, what is Afghanistan worth to America and it's cost to our citizens? How long would we be there, 10, 20, 30 years? Because we could stay for 5-10 more years at tremendous cost, only to have it all fall back to the way it was when we finally leave, or we finally go completely broke trying.

It was more than a few minutes
It was about ten minutes from the time Bush was told of the second crash and the time he left the classroom. What do you suggest the president could have done in ten minutes?

the generals of a war are always going to request more troops, more equipment, etc.,
Actually, they don't. Especially those high up. They know how to use their resources, and they know that too many can be just as bad as too few. Obama picked the general and he picked the tactic, but now he can't decide if he wants to go forward with his own plan or let his political advisers have their hand at trying to run the military. This isn't rocket science. Obama decided what he wanted to do and asked his general what he needed to get the job done. Obama should have had an idea at that time what was too much and what his contingency plan would be. If he is this slow making up his mind on a war that has been going on since before he got into office, how tough would it be for him to decide what to do if disaster were to strike here at home?

As for a war lasting years on end without any progress, that is most likely to happen when you let politicians try and micro manage the war. Those advising Obama right now are the same people that swore the surge wouldn't work in Iraq. Should we be following their advice now?

First off, thank God you are not a first responder! Second, stop being such a Bush apologist! Imagine if that were Obama sitting and reading a book after just having been told the nation were under attack? Would you shrug it off as "what could he have done in ten minutes"??! I personally have been involved to direct responses to emergency situation (not going into detail) and never would I consider to sit and read, have a coffee, or anything for any amount of time before leaping into action to either learn more about the situation immediately, to handle it, or to give any aid to those who are in it. Such hypocrisy I see. At least I do not excuse either of them, they are (or were in Bush's case) the leaders of our nation, and in times of crisis should lead, and address the situation at hand, not read or give shout outs before dealing with them!

So you expected Bush to jump aboard his plane, head straight to NYC, and help with search and rescue? That simply isn't his job. There is absolutely nothing he could have done in those ten minutes other than upset those children and wait with his staff as the information started to trickle in. Stop being such a Bush hater.

n2sooners, your pathetic defense of one of the biggest war criminals of the 21st century (so far) says more about you than about Bush.

Get a life.

You calling our troops killers and terrorists tells me enough to know that your opinion means squat to me.

You ask me why I call your "brave soldiers" nothing but terrorists?

See this list of countries unilaterally invaded by America since WWII, killing more civilians in the process than Al Qaeda could ever dream about.
